Jet2.com is replacing its suspended Egypt programme with flights to a raft of traditional family destinations in Spain and Portugal.
The leading leisure carrier confirmed it had added more than 70,000 seats – originally part of its Egypt programme – to Alicante, Ibiza, Malaga, Faro and Tenerife. The flights are for this summer.
Jet2.com chief executive Philip Meeson said: “We have always seen strong demand for Spain and Portugal.”
Yesterday the company announced it was suspending all flights and holidays to Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada in Egypt from March 1 because of ongoing uncertainty in the destination following recent protests in Cairo. It is continuing its programme to Red Sea resorts.
The largest capacity increase will be on flights out of Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and Glasgow, with seats going on sale immediately.
Out of Manchester there will be additional flights to Alicante and Majorca, making the flights double daily on Fridays and Saturdays. There will also be an extra Saturday flight to Tenerife on a Saturday, and more seats available for Ibiza and Malaga.
From Leeds Bradford, there is a new Thursday flight to Tenerife and an additional Sunday morning flight to Murcia.
Newcastle airport will see two new flights to Alicante on Thursdays and Sundays, a new Malaga flight on a Wednesday and more seats available to Faro.
An additional flight to Majorca will operate out of Glasgow on a Wednesday.
