Princess Cruises plans royal wedding broadcasts

Royal wedding broadcasts are planned on giant outdoor screens across the Princess Cruises fleet.

The Westminster Abbey ceremony of Prince William and Kate Middleton will be broadcast live on Movies under the Stars screens on April 29.

Thirteen Princess ships now feature the giant 300 sq ft LED Movies under the Stars screens after a multi-million dollar refurbishment.

They include a 69,000-watt sound system and have sufficient lighting power to be seen clearly at mid-day and heard even ships are moving at full speed.

The line is laying on full coverage of the BBC’s broadcast across all ships, subject to satellite availability. The broadcast may be delayed for viewing at a convenient hour for ships in some time zones.

Celebration parties will also be hosted onboard including special Royal-themed cocktails, Royal wedding trivia and a William and Kate look-alike contest.

Princess Cruises’ UK head of brand marketing Pieter van der Schee said: “As this is the first Royal wedding in some years we know there will be huge interest not only from our British passengers, but our international passengers too.

“We also feel a connection with Prince William because his mother, Princess Diana, christened our original Royal Princess back in 1984.”
