British Airways will pull out of Egyptian resort Sharm el Sheik from May after seeing disappointing demand on the route.
A BA spokesman denied the decision was anything to do with unrest in Egypt following the overthrow of the government and the carrier has no plans to drop services to Cairo.
The carrier will axe flights from Gatwick on May 2 and use the aircraft to add capacity to Mauritius. BA currently flies three times a week to Sharm el Sheik.
Passengers due to fly after May 3 will have fares refunded. BA only launched flights to Sharm el Sheik last October, although the route was previously served by former BA franchise carrier GB Airways – bought by easyJet in 2007.
