TWgroup announces departure of chief executive

Travel Weekly parent TWgroup has announced its chief executive Simon Ferguson is to leave the business at the end of June.

Ferguson, who has been with the business for eight years and led the management buy-out from Reed Business Information in August 2009, will pursue new ventures outside of the business.

He is likely to retain a consulting role with TWgroup, which includes the UK’s market leading trade publication Travel Weekly and Travolution, the online travel brand Ferguson established in 2006.

The third arm of TWgroup, gazetteers.com, was transformed from a hard copy directory of resort and hotel reviews to an unmatched online resource for travel agents by Ferguson during his time at Travel Weekly.

TWgroup chairman Clive Jacobs said: ”Simon has done an excellent job in helping to build the TWgroup into the market leading business it is today.

“His tireless efforts in the last 18 months in particular have been crucial to the success of the TWgroup under my ownership. I wish him every success in his next venture and am pleased that we will continue to have opportunities to work together in the future.”

Ferguson added: “I am enormously proud of everything we have achieved at the TWgroup, particularly under independent ownership, and am pleased to be leaving at a time when our market leadership is so strong.

“I wish Clive and all at the TWgroup the very best for the future and look forward to continuing to support the business in achieving its objectives.”
