Man arrested after Heathrow suicide bomb threat

A man was arrested at Heathrow’s Terminal Five after he allegedly walked into the building and threatened to blow himself up.

The man, said to be English and in his 30s, caused what early reports said was a standoff with armed police at the airport.

The situation was dealt with quickly and the departures area of the terminal partially evacuated of travellers while the man was detained and a bag he was carrying was investigated.

The bag was later cleared, nothing suspicious having been found, and the terminal quickly re-opened and flights resumed.

The incident happened at around 12.50pm, the terminal being partially closed for around an hour.
