Spanish strikes: Rail retailer targets worried travellers

Rail specialist retailer International Rail is urging holidaymakers to consider using rail instead of flying as planned strikes in Spain over Easter and summer threaten disruption.

Unions representing Spanish airport workers have announced 22 days of strikes starting in April in a long-running dispute over plans to part privatise the country’s airports.

Rod Maton, chairman of International Rail, said: “Whilst most travellers think of Spain in terms of flying and driving, actually Renfe (Spanish Railways) is absolutely fantastic and offers great flexibility and value for individuals and families alike.

“You can travel to Spain from the UK by train and once you have arrived in the country why not use the train to explore and travel between the different regions, cities and towns.”

Train fares from London to Spain start from just £89 per person. Sleeper train options are also available from just £210 per person. International Rail is Renfe’s appointed UK agent with direct access to the Renfe booking system.
