Affinion shake-up to attract new suppliers

Large independent agency Affinion International Travel has shaken up its commercial team as part of plans to work with more suppliers.

The Kettering-based company currently works with more than 500 trade partners including Emirates, Virgin Atlantic, Kuoni, Tui, Thomas Cook, Superbreak, Avis and Royal Caribbean International.

The commercial team re-structuring comes as the company aims enhance its full travel service offering to clients, which including leading blue-chip financial institutions.

A range of new initiatives are planned this year including private label travel technology.

Mark Mitchell, who previously held the position of head of commercial, has taken on the newly created role of commercial and product director for travel, heading a six-strong team.

He said: “Our clients are blue-chip financial institutions, as well as charities and unions, who have closed-user group end-users who are hungry for travel product which is tailored to their needs. 

“We think we can provide a huge opportunity for travel suppliers of any shape and size and we will be announcing some exciting developments, including technology innovations, throughout this year.”

Mitchell added that the commercial team re-structuring has been designed to attract and partner new suppliers. 

“We can offer suppliers who work within our distribution channels access to over one million consumers, so it is vital to our 2011 plans that we re-launch our commercial team to the UK travel trade so that potential suppliers know that we are here and willing to talk to them about distribution solutions,” he said.
