EUROPCAR has added three electric cars to its fleet in Jersey.
The Toyota RAV4 vehicles are on the island as part of an environmental initiative funded by the Jersey Electric Company.
The cars, which cost £20 a day to hire, have a range of 125 miles and a top speed of 77mph so they are seen as ideal for an island that measures just nine miles by five miles and has a 40mph maximum speed limit.
The cars can be recharged for free at a selection of hotels on the island and at three parking bays in the capital, St Helier.
Managing director Guy Plante said: “This is an enormously valuable opportunity for us to be able to trial the use of electric cars for rent.
“They are already proving an extremely popular alternative to conventional transport as there are no running costs.”
