A small corner of Greece appeared in Westfield London this week as the destination treated shoppers to food and drink, golf and sailing simulators, spa treatments, rock climbing walls and a ‘beach’ made of real sand.
The Greek Theme Park, open until Sunday March 27, forms part of an ongoing bid to woo tourists put off by economic problems, an unfavourable exchange rate and the memory of last year’s volcanic ash cloud.
According to the Greek tourist board, visitor numbers for January and February 2011 are up on last year following a series of measures to increase demand and airlift, including a VAT cut on tourist services and removal of cabotage restrictions and airport fees.
