Rescue flight organised for British tourists in Nepal

A new government repatriation flight has been organised from Nepal.

The service has been scheduled to fly British tourists, short-term visitors and their direct dependants back to the UK.

The flight is due to depart from Tribhuvan International airport in Kathmandu on April 17.

The cost of the flight is £800 per person.

People unable to pay the cost are being advised by the Foreign Office to call its travel management company CTM.

“If all other options (e.g. savings accounts, help from family members or friends) have been exhausted, you can apply for an emergency loan which may be authorised,” the FCO said.

“You will need to repay the loan when you are back in the UK.”

The Nepal service follows a special commercial flight from Phnom Penh in Cambodia today (Tuesday).

The only other flight option out of Cambodia to the UK is via Seoul with Korean Air.

Meanwhile, the FCO said it understood that Qatar Airways intends to operate a flight from Male in the Maldives to Doha on April 21, with onward connections to the UK.
