A ban on all commercial flight ticket sales until September has been imposed by Argentina.
One of the toughest coronavirus travel bans in the world triggered an industry outcry over thousands of aviation jobs.
The South American country’s National Civil Aviation Administration issued a decree on Monday, banning ticket sales for commercial flights to, from or within Argentina.
It described September 1 as a “reasonable” date.
The regulator added that the decree was aimed at preventing airlines from ticketing flights not approved by the Argentine authorities.
Iata wrote to the Argentine government, warning that the decision breached bilateral agreements and put at risk more than 300,000 jobs in the country.
ALTA, which lobbies on behalf of Latin American airlines, warned that the decision represented “imminent and substantial risk” to thousands of jobs in Argentina.
