Emirates scraps fuel surcharge

Emirates has bucked the trend in airline recouping fuel costs by removing its surcharge altogether.

President Tim Clark said: “In line with the recent decrease in fuel prices Emirates has removed its fuel surcharge on all tickets.

“The removal … reflects our long standing commitment to our customers … that we would eliminate the surcharge as soon as it was commercially viable and this has now been done.”

The move came against a background of a decline in the price of Brent crude oil from about $126 a barrel last week to just $110.

The Dubai-based carrier is due to release its annual results today. Inital reports suggest the airline has built on strong half year figures with a 51.9% surge in annual profits to $1.5 million
