Greek austerity strike to hit flights

Flights to Greece are expected to face severe disruption today as unions stage a one day strike against the country’s austerity measures.

The walkout has been called by two of the country’s largest unions and is expected to shut down most public services and ground flights.

The strike was called by private sector union GSEE and public sector union ADEDY in protest against cuts to wages and pensions, job losses and increased taxes.

Greece is a year into an international bail-out of its foundering economy and there are fears a new rescue package may be needed.
