TRAVEL agency credit controller Gina Superville has won her case of racial discrimination against her former employee, Institute of Travel and Tourism chief executive Linda Gibson.
Superville took Gibson and the ITT to an employment tribunal in which she claimed she was discriminated against because she is black (Travel Weekly July 5).
She told the Bedford Employment Tribunal that Gibson refused to give her a full-time contract and told her the reason she could not employ her permanently was due to her colour.
Gibson denied the claims and called on travel industry colleagues, including Thomson communications director Russell Amerasekera, to give evidence on her behalf.
But, in a reserved judgement announced last week, the tribunal panel unanimously decided in Superville’s favour. She is due to attend the tribunal again on Thursday where she is expected to be awarded a significant sum in damages.
Superville, who now works in accounts for Gullivers Travel Agency in London, said:”This was a very important issue for me. This sort of thing does go on and it’s not something which should be swept under the carpet.”
Gibson was unavailable for comment as TravelWeekly went to press.
