Wizz Air reveals multi-country expansion

Wizz Air is expanding its low cost network with new bases Germany, Romania and Russia.

The budget carrier is also expanding an existing base in Belgrade, Serbia.

A total of 44 new routes will be introduced with seven aircraft deployed.

Eighteen new services will run from Dortmund from August to ten countries, bringing the carrier’s network up to 48 destinations from the airport.

St Petersburg becomes the airline’s first base in Russia with five routes from September 18.

Twelve new routes will operate from Bacau in Romania while nine new services are being added from Belgrade.

Chief executive Jozsef Varadi said: “We continue take advantage of market opportunities and re-stimulate demand for low-cost travel.

“This expansion further contributes to the vital recovery of the economy in our markets and we remain focused on best servicing them, while protecting the health of our customers and employees.

“Our ever-disciplined attitude to cost and our solid balance sheet ensure that we remain a most formidable business under any market circumstance.”
