Violent clashes break out in Madrid

Violent clashes between demonstrators and police in the Spanish capital of Madrid have left at least 20 people injured overnight.

Police charged against protestors who had gathered in front of the Interior Ministry building.

Thirteen demonstrators and seven police officers were injured. None of them suffered serious injuries.

The demonstrators, demanding changes to the country’s political and economic system, had tried to force their way into the ministry.

There have been constant protests around Madrid’s Puerta de Sol central square since Tuesday, with thousands gathering.
