Flights between Jamaica and the UK resumed for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic halted operations today.
A British Airways flight from Gatwick to Kingston was the first direct passenger flight between the countries in months.
Jamaica is on the UK government’s list of ‘safe’ countries from which people arriving in the UK do not have to self-isolate for 14 days.
But UK visitors arriving in Jamaica will be tested for Covid-19 on arrival in the Caribbean country, and tourists must spend their time only within the country’s Covid Resilient Zone along the northern coastline resort areas.
Before checking into a flight to Jamaica, all visitors to Jamaica must also get authorisation from the Visit Jamaica website.
Elizabeth Fox, regional director for the UK and Northern Europe at the Jamaica Tourist Board, said: “We’re thrilled to see the first flight to Jamaica from Gatwick taking off today.
“Jamaica has implemented robust health protocols to ensure the wellbeing of all residents and visitors. As one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean with over 225,000 Brits visiting each year, we look forward with great enthusiasm to welcoming back our British visitors.”
