Viking River Cruises orders two new vessels

Increased demand has prompted Viking River Cruises to order an additional two new vessels for 2012.

The new ships are in addition to four already on order and come “in response to the high demand for 2012 and 2013 bookings,” the company said.

The new builds will copy that of Viking’s ‘Longship’ cruisers, including the Viking Prestige and Viking Legend. The vessels will be 443 feet long and feature 95 cabins.

The six new ships are due to sail popular European itineraries including a 15-day Grand European Tour, 8-day Romantic Danube, 8-day Danube Waltz, 10-day Tulips & Windmills and 8-day Rhine Getaway.

UK managing director Wendy Atkin-Smith said: “The two additional Longship builds represent our continued commitment to delivering quality on the river and once again, show how we are setting the bar for river cruising globally.

“River cruising is ever growing in popularity with 134,000 people from the UK taking a river cruise in 2010. The new builds are bringing our ships into the modern era and ensuring that our customers guaranteed the best river cruise ships on the market.”

Viking River Cruises are offering £1,000 off per couple for customers booking any of their 2012 cruises before 30th September 2011. This offer applies to all of Viking’s cruises including trips across Europe, Russia and Asia.
