Orient-Express takes to the river for 2000

ORIENT-EXPRESS Trains and Cruises has announced details of a millennium river cruise in the Far East.


Passengers fly from the UKto Rangoon,Myanmar, on December 27 and stay at the Inya Lake Hotel for two nights before flying to Mandalay to board the luxury Road toMandalay river cruiser.


The cruise’s first port of call is Sagaing, where passengers can take part in a tour that includes a visit to a mountain monastery and nunnery. Passengers celebrate New Year’s Eve at the next port of call, Bagan, where 2,500 pagodas line the banks of the river.


There will be a party among the ancient temples to celebrate the new millennium.


New Year’s Day is spent on an excursion to Mount Popa.


The next two days are spent sailing on the river before arriving at Ava, an island temple, on January 3.


The final port of call is Mingun. The 10-day Road to Mandalay cruise costs £3,330 per person, including flights.
