Tui AG has been listed for the first time as an industry leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index receiving top marks for its climate strategy.
The German-based majority shareholder in Tui Travel appears as an industry leader in the travel and tourism’ section of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World and Europe.
Europe’s leading travel group received top marks in all categories including climate change strategy, risk and crisis management, and stakeholder dialogue in the annual review of sustainability rankings.
Tui also achieved a higher ranking in the DJSI for its social activities (corporate citizenship/philanthropy). An example of its activity includes a commitment to earthquake victims in Haiti.
The DJSI comprises 342 companies of the 2,500 members of the Dow Jones Global Index leading the field in terms of sustainability. Alongside economic criteria, the assessment takes account of selected ecological and social criteria.
Tui AG board member Dr Peter Engelen said that “being awarded the position of industry leader confirms that we are on the right track with our long-term and broad-based sustainable development strategy”.
He added: “More than 20 years ago and as the first major travel company, we brought our environmental and sustainability management into life. We are aware of our responsibility towards the environment and society as a whole and will continue to be a driving force in the tourism industry.”
