Greece imposed restrictions on restaurants, bars and clubs on the most-popular holiday islands this week and toughened restrictions on travellers arriving from some EU countries.
The Greek government ordered the closure of bars, clubs, restaurants and entertainment venues on Corfu, Mykonos, Paros, Santorini, Rhodes, Antiparos, Zakynthos and Kos from midnight on Tuesday.
Businesses failing to shut by midnight face a €10,000 euro fine for a first offence and closure for a second.
The government also announced Covid-19 test results will be required of all arrivals to the country from Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden and the Czech Republic from Monday August 17.
Travellers will be asked to present a negative PCR test result for coronavirus on arrival.
Media outlets in Greece reported police and port authorities had identified dozens of violations of social-distancing and mask-wearing rules at restaurants, bars and clubs on the islands.
Separately, Italy added Greece to a list of countries from which arriving visitors would require coronavirus tests on Wednesday, along with Spain, Malta and Croatia.
Incoming visitors or Italian nationals returning from these countries will be required to undergo a test on arrival at the airport, port or train station or to present a negative result from a Covid-19 test 72 hours before arrival.
Elsewhere, nightclubs and pubs across Spain have been told to shut their doors, following a spike in coronavirus cases across the country.
