Poll finds one in five want ‘two holidays in one’

As many as one in five holidaymakers are looking to have ‘two holidays in one’ in 2012 in an effort to save money.

One in six cost-conscious consumers combined at least two types of holiday into their main break this year, according to a study published today, with more than half of these pairing a city break with a beach escape.

The research, commissioned by Royal Caribbean International and conducted by One Poll, found the biggest reasons for combination-holidays were to save money (55%) or to get the best value from holiday spending (23%).

Two thirds of those over 45 wanted a combination holiday to save money, compared with 18% of those under 24. Holidaymakers aged 25-34 were most likely to value a combination break to make better use of time.

The research, conducted among 2,000 people, found more than half have no further holiday plans for 2011, despite the October half term and Christmas still to come.

Combination holidays appear most popular with women and among Londoners, with 23% of those in the capital looking for at least two different types of holiday within a break.

Those from the East Midlands appear keen to include most in a holiday – 60% of respondents from the region wanted a holiday to encompass a city, beach and sports or fitness element within one break.
