Jet2holidays has suspended all package holidays to the Greek islands of Crete and Zante up to September 20.
The operator’s move follows the UK government’s announcement yesterday that visitors returning from seven Greek islands must quarantine for 14 days from 4am Wednesday.
Transport secretary Grant Shapps announced the introduction of ‘island corridors’ which enable parts of countries to be exempt from the DfT quarantine list while others remain on it, providing they have “natural borders”.
After announcing the policy, he said restrictions will apply to Lesvos, Tinos, Serifos, Mykonos, Santorini, Crete and Zakynthos (Zante).
In a communication to travel agents on Tuesday, Jet2 said: “Jet2holidays has taken the decision to extend the suspension of our flights and holidays programme to Crete and Zante due to the continued Covid-19 Pandemic.
“We still have plenty of holidays available to alternative destinations including The Algarve, Kos, Rhodes, Corfu, Kefalonia, Cyprus and Turkey next week for your customers to rebook.”
Jet2holidays customers with affected bookings will receive a full refund and agents will be issued with a cancellation invoice.
Customers currently in the affected destinations have been urged to stay, and Jet2 said it would “be in touch regarding flights back to the UK”.
