Talks between Thomas Cook and Unite over nearly 500 cabin crew redundancies will be held next Wednesday, November 2.
The talks, which are expected to be held in Manchester, come after the cabin crew members of Unite voted overwhelmingly in a consultative ballot in favour of industrial action. A total of 475 Unite members voted for industrial action, with 53 against.
Unite regional officer, Mick Whitley said: “The company and Unite are due to meet next Wednesday for what we hope will be meaningful consultations.”
The ballot followed what cabin crew union Unite described as a breakdown in talks over redundancy terms. However, Thomas Cook said it remained committed to consultation with the union.
In September, Thomas Cook Airlines announced it was cutting 250 staff and six aircraft from its UK fleet this winter. It began a 90-day consultation on September 6. The company claimed the number of actual redundancies would be “significantly less” than the 498 jobs at risk.
