Further talks are due to be held between Thomas Cook and union Unite next week over 498 cabin crew redundancies.
Talks were held yesterday, November 2, in Manchester after cabin crew members of Unite voted in a consultative ballot in favour of industrial action. A total of 475 Unite members voted for industrial action, with 53 against.
Unite represents about 1,150 of the 1,800-strong cabin crew workforce.
Unite regional officer Mick Whitley said: “Further talks will be held next Wednesday and Unite won’t be making any comment until after those consultations have been concluded.”
The recemt ballot followed what cabin crew union Unite described as a breakdown in talks over redundancy terms. However, Thomas Cook has said it remains committed to consultation with the union.
In September, Thomas Cook Airlines announced it was cutting 250 staff and six aircraft from its UK fleet this winter. It began a 90-day consultation on September 6. The company claimed the number of actual redundancies would be “significantly less” than the 498 jobs at risk.
