More than 470 international flights could be cancelled today due to a general strike in Portugal.
EasyJet has been forced to cancel almost 50 flights and Ryanair 42 from across Europe. Portuguese airports affected include Lisbon, Faro, Porto and Funchal in Madeira.
Tap Air Portugal’s network has been badly affected with only four services guaranteed to operate today.
Passengers on other airlines face a similar picture of mass flight cancellations and the prospect of a knock-on effect tomorrow as schedules return to normal.
The disruption, which also affected many flights yesterday, comes as workers in Portugal strike against austerity measures adopted in return for a £67 billion international bailout.
