Qantas has launched a ‘book now, pay later’ offer allowing passengers to book a flight but defer paying the fare until closer to departure.
Passengers may book online by paying a £15 deposit that is refundable when they pay the full fare.
However, the offer is only available online, leaving agents – who sell a significant proportion of Qantas seats from the UK – out in the cold.
Qantas UK regional general manager Paul Yankson said: “Our customers can plan travel well in advance of their departure date to ensure they don’t miss out on the flight they want.
“People who prefer to use this option will be advised when full payment is required and how to make the payment online.”
A Qantas spokeswoman confirmed the offer would only be available at Qantas.com.
The availability of ‘book now, pay later’ and the timing of payments will depend on the conditions attached to fares and the time until departure.
Qantas also said the price could change while a booking is on hold “due to amendments in surcharges, taxes and fare adjustments”. The carrier said: “Customers will be advised of the final price before making payment.”
However, passengers will have the option of paying immediately. The offer excludes round-the-world and a number of other fares.
