Norwegian Air suffers 90% October passenger slump

Norwegian Air passenger carryings were down 90% last month over October 2019 as the Covid crisis continued to dampen travel demand.

Traffic figures for the month were “heavily influenced” by lower demand caused by continued travel restrictions across Europe, with several new red zones.

The Scandinavian budget carrier flew just 319,477 passengers in the month, a fall of 90%.

Capacity fell 93%, while the load factor was down 32 percentage points year-on-year to 55.3%.

Chief executive Jacob Schram said: “The pandemic continues to have a negative impact on our business throughout the autumn as travel restrictions remain and new ones are imposed across large parts of Europe.

“As this pandemic will continue to affect travel for several more months, we will continue to adapt our route network in line with changing demand.”
