Latin America specialist Latin Routes has raised over £2,700 in a Christmas appeal to buy presents for children in families affected by the crisis in travel.
The initiative was launched on October 30 and surpassed £1,000 within days.
The operator’s office is receiving deliveries of gifts from a dedicated Amazon wishlist.
The Latin Routes team will match the gifts to the right children, wrap and deliver the presents in time for Christmas.
Large donations have been made from some companies, including Travlaw with a pledge of £250 instead of sending Christmas cards and corporate gifts.
Jess Dennison, Latin Routes’ director and head of trade relations, said: “We have already pledged to help over 50 families so far from the travel industry but we want to help as many as we can and encourage more nominations.
“It is amazing that when almost all of us have been hit in some way this year there is so much kindness out there – it really shows what an incredible industry we work in and that kindness goes a long way in difficult times.”
