Alicante and Las Vegas have emerged as the top two flight-only destinations for British travellers going abroad in 2012.
Research by price comparison site Dealchecker found that the Spanish resort has risen in popularity by five places in its top ten over last year, knocking Bangkok off the top slot.
Las Vegas makes its first appearance in the top ten, in second place, followed by Tenerife and New York, up four places from last year, and Orlando in fifth position. Barcelona is new in ninth position.
But New Delhi and Mumbai have both dropped out of the top ten with Bangkok down to tenth position.
Dealchecker editor Alice Mariscotti-Wyatt said: “Travellers are looking for the best available deals to get the most from their holiday pound.
“Spain and North America have always been popular destinations and offer great value getaways.
“In these tougher times travellers prefer to stick to what they know best; for the moment at least travellers are being little more cautious about their travel plans for 2012.”
