Budget airline Ryanair is to fly from Teesside airport from June 2021.
Tickets have gone on sale for two services each week to Alicante, on Spain’s mainland, and Palma, Majorca.
Flights begin on June 1, with fares from £29.99 when booked by this Friday (November 27).
Next year is Teesside airport’s 80th. It had previously been set to close in 2021, but recently confirmed a £1million overhaul to its security area and a renovation of its business lounge.
Ryanair’s director of commercial, Jason McGuinness, said: “We are delighted to be back in Teesside with two new routes to Alicante and Mallorca.”
Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen said: “Today is a seismic day for Teesside airport. The fact that Europe’s biggest low-cost airline, Ryanair, is backing Teesside despite all the difficulties the aviation industry is facing, shows our airport has a great future and is in safe hands.
“Securing a low-cost airline was always the crucial part in our rescue plan for Teesside Airport, and less than two years after agreeing a deal to buy back our airport, we have made it happen.”
