BRITISH Airways is raising high-yield premium traffic at the expense of economy bookings.
The carrier reported that February’s business and first-class cabin sales were 11.7% higher last month over the corresponding period last year.
BA said this was the eighth month in a row premium traffic had increased. Economy bookings in February rose by only 1.9%. The figures reflect BA’s policy of cutting back on low-yield economy seats to push premium business.
Airlines within the BA Group carried 3.3m passengers last month, a 5.8% rise on February last year. BA warned that the market continues to be affected by overcapacity and rising fuel costs.
