Belgium strike hits train services and flights

Eurostar and airlines have cancelled services to and from Belgium today due to a general strike in the country.

The Channel tunnel passenger train operator said no services would run between London and Brussels or on connecting rail services in Belgium.

A revised service will operate between London and Lille while the London-Paris route is unaffected.

Ryanair was forced to cancel dozens of flights to and from Brussels Charleroi airport, including services from Edinburgh and Manchester. British Airways said it planned to operate a normal schedule to and from Belgium.

But BA recommended that passengers due to fly to and from the country today check the status of their flight before leaving for the airport. Travellers were also warned to be prepared for delays and disruption to buses, trains and other public transport.
