Clia plans mix of live and virtual events in 2021

Cruise body Clia UK & Ireland plans a mix of virtual and live events for agents during 2021 as the sector emerges from the Covid-19 crisis.

Speaking at the Virtual Clia Cruise Showcase on Wednesday (December 9) Andy Harmer, Clia director, said the association is planning a conference for May.

The dates and venue for the conference are yet to be decided

Early in 2021, there will be webinar sessions called ‘The Wave Half Wowers’, running on Thursdays from January 7 to February 11 for Clia’s travel agent members.

Taking place from 9.30am-10am, these virtual events will feature representatives from four cruise lines, who will take five minutes each to quickly update the audience on offers, promotions and additions in place for the wave season.

Clia is also planning a Virtual River Cruise Showcase (March 3-4) and a Virtual Luxury and Expedition Showcase (April 5).

Speaking at the virtual event today with Lucy Huxley, Travel Weekly editor-in-chief, Harmer said innovations during 2020 such as virtual ship tours had proved successful in keeping travel agents up to date.

The association has also produced its first guide for those new to river cruising.

Harmer has also been able to keep agents updated with cruise news via his show on Mondays on the new Travel.Radio station – along with his choice of festive songs.

The second day of the Virtual Clia Cruise Showcase will take place on Thursday (December 9).
