Geneva services from London City to resume from Saturday

London City Airport has is to resume flights to Geneva from Saturday (December 19).

Four flights a week operated by BA CityFlyer on the route to Switzerland’s second largest city, which was the ninth most popular from London City last year with 190,308 passengers.

The airport’s head of aviation, Anne Doyere, said: “This is a welcome Christmas boost for the airport and for our passengers who wish to travel to Geneva for leisure or business in the next few weeks, or to be reunited with friends and family over the festive period.

“Geneva is a key centre for international business and finance, and a hub for leisure travellers to access the winter ski resorts in the Alps. We are delighted that London City has been able to restore this vital connection in the run up to Christmas.

“We are hopeful that this news, alongside the positive developments on testing and quarantine in recent weeks, will increase passenger confidence and enable our airlines to schedule more routes and rotations throughout the winter season”.

The announcement comes ahead of the start of the UK’s test to release scheme tomorrow, which allows passengers to end quarantine early if they test negative for Covid after five days of their return to the UK.

London City is calling on the government introduce a pre-departure testing regime which ultimately eliminates the need for quarantine altogether and said a survey of 500 business leaders undertaken by the airport in September showed strong underlying demand for air travel, which could be “unlocked” by using the system.
