Barrhead to develop cruise division

Leading Scottish agency Barrhead Travel has signalled plans to develop its cruise division with a new project manager.

Les Whiting has moved across from Glasgow-based John Semple Travel into the new role as part of a team of three working on the cruise initiative.

A spokeswoman for Barrhead, which has had a cruise arm for 10 years, said development plans were currently under wraps for the next few months.

But Whiting has been appointed to “take forward several cruise developments” for the company.

His career in travel spans 25 years with a background including airlines, consolidators and cruise experience within the independent travel agency sector.

Chief executive Sharon Munro said: “This appointment will further strengthen Barrhead Travel’s cruise presence, thanks to Les’s knowledge and his wealth of experience in this area.

“Enhancing our cruise offering is part of our expansion strategy for the foreseeable future.”

Whiting said: “My new role promises to be both varied and challenging, and I am looking forward to it with relish.

“Barrhead Travel’s reputation for innovation in the cruise sector is well-known and I will be working on some projects that will further enhance that.

“The company has ambitious plans for the future, and I am very pleased that I’ll be a part of those plans.”
