The Vilu Reef Beach & Spa Resort has teamed up with charity Pack For a Purpose to offer guests the opportunity to make “meaningful contributions to the community.”
The hotel sits in an atoll surrounded by inhabited local islands and has set up a community project with local schools – the Dhaalu Atoll School on Meedhoo island and the Bandidhoo School on Bandidhoo island
Visitors are advised what to pack if they want to donate to the project, usually around the 2.5kg mark.
Donations can be dropped off at the hotel on arrival or guests can meet the children and deliver them personally.
The hotel offers day and half-day trips to the islands to explore fishing villages, the mosque, the schools and do a little shopping.
