Flights cancelled as Frankfurt strikes resume

Up to a quarter of flights are expected to be cancelled as a result of renewed strike action at Frankfurt airport.

The latest action, which follows earlier strikes, got under way last night and is expected to last until Thursday morning.

The fresh walkouts by 200 apron control staff have resumed after pay talks with airport operator Fraport broke down on Friday.

Lufthansa has cancelled 140 flights today, particularly short- and medium-haul services. About 80% of long-haul flights from Europe’s third-busiest airport are not expected to be affected.

Fraport insists it had made concessions “on many points in the union’s extremely high demands” following industrial action stretching back by more than a week.
