Almond Beach Village to shut at the end of April

Travel agents are being advised to contact their tour operator if they have booked clients into Almond Beach Village in Barbados after it announced it is to close at the end of this month.

The news of its closure follows attempts to sell the property by majority shareholder Neal & Massy Holdings. Agents and operators are being advised to rebook clients into one of its other two properties in Barbados: Almond Beach Club & Spa and Almond Casuarina Beach.

The hotel chain is currently writing to tour operators to inform them of the closure.

A spokesperson for Almond Resorts said: “The Almond Beach Village property will be closed from April 30, 2012. In order to ensure the least amount of disruption, it is recommended that all guests currently booked at Almond Beach Village after this date contact their tour operator to be relocated to Almond Beach Club & Spa and/or Almond Casuarina Beach resort in Barbados.”

The announcement follows a meeting with shareholders earlier this week to update them on plans to sell the Barbados hotel chain. It is not known if buyers have been found for the group’s other two Barbados properties.

Neal & Massy revealed in its 2011 annual financial report that it was looking to sell its interest in the under-performing hotel chain. The group sold its Morgan Bay property in Saint Lucia at the start of the year.
