ACE: Poor weather could kick-start cruise bookings

The wettest April on record could provide a silver lining to depressed cruise sales for this summer.

Hurtigruten UK managing director Kathryn Beadle suggested the poor UK weather could kick-start bookings.

Speaking prior to the start of the ACE Selling Cruise Conference, she said: “The timing is perfect because there is still a lot to sell for 2012 but also 2013 is now on sale.”

Suggesting that business was starting to come back, Beadle added: “The ‘sod it’ factor is really kicking in. It’s definitely due to the weather.”

She suggested that consumer worries about the economy were less about the present time and more about what might happen in the near future.

“They are concerned about what may happen six months down the line.”
