n American tops table
for world revenue
American Airlines has topped the latest league table for the best revenue earners in world aviation. Last year, American recorded revenue of $19.2bn to put it ahead of United Airlines at $17.5bn and British Airways at $14.7bn. The table was compiled by Travel Weekly’s sister publication Airline Business.

Thai Airways is increasing UK connections to Vietnam from October 31 with the launch of thrice-weekly Bangkok-Da Nang flights. Thai offers 10 weekly Heathrow-Bangkok flights which connect with the Vietnam flights.

BWIA is celebrating its 60th anniversary by promoting a special deal for couples to fly from Heathrow to the Caribbean. For every normal fare economy orbusiness-class ticket bought, the airline willprovide a second for £60 if at least one of thepassengers is aged over 60. The deal is available until September 30 for outward travel up to December 8 and return by February 29.

Plans to build a new £3.2bn airport for Sydney have been shelved in favour of using smallerairports to take excess capacity from the existing Kingsford Smith facility.

Interested parties have until tomorrow to comment on proposals from British Regional Airlines, Jersey European Airways and Aurigny Air Services to take over KLM UK services to Jersey (Travel Weekly August 9). Only one airline will be chosen by the Jersey Transport Authority tooperate the Stansted and Southampton flights to the Channel Island.

British Airways is trying to boost ex-US transatlantic business-class yields with a special deal for frequent flyers. Passengers flying two transatlantic sectors qualify for two free return economy tickets on BA or its partners.
