McDonald’s boss to address Women 1st conference

Jill McDonald, UK chief executive and president of Northern Europe for McDonald’s restaurants, will deliver a speech entitled “My personal journey of success” at the inaugural Women 1st conference on June 19.

The conference, held at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel in Knightsbridge, will also include speeches from Alexandra Rice, executive director of specialist commercial banking at Coutts & Co and Lorraine Heggessey, former BBC One controller and chief executive of Talkback Thames.

The event, which will be hosted by editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post UK, Carla Buzasi, is aimed at female managers, entrepreneurs and those aspiring to leadership positions. It will offer a programme of motivational speakers, practical workshops and networking opportunities.

While 58% of workers in the hospitality, leisure and travel and tourism workforce are female, only 6% of board director positions are held by women, according to Women 1st.

McDonald said: “Leading a workforce of more than 87,500 at McDonald’s, I know how important it is to tap into talent and support every employee to reach their full potential.

“Women 1st has an impressive track record of helping women in our industry to achieve their career ambitions, so I’m delighted to be able to share my personal journey of success in the hope that it will inspire others who are looking to take their careers to the next level.”
