Virgin Atlantic has named a former BBC director as its new marketing director.
Simon Lloyd, the corporation’s former director of media engagement, marketing and audiences, starts with the airline on July 10.
He has been recruited following the departure of Virgin Atlantic’s ex-sales and marketing director Paul Dickinson six months ago to join auctioneers Christie’s.
That role has now been split in two with a new sales director also to be recruited.
Lloyd’s role at the BBC included responsibility for the distribution of marketing content, strategic marketing and brand leadership of BBC Sport, 5Live and programming for children.
He spent three years at the BBC and previously ran marketing for the future media and digital division, overseeing audience insight, strategic development and marketing for services such as BBC Online and BBC iPlayer.
Virgin Atlantic chief commercial officer Julie Southern said: “I am delighted to welcome Simon to this key position at Virgin Atlantic. I am confident that he will be able to build on our creative marketing strengths and take the airline forward.”
