Olympic hotel rates hit almost £190 in London

London hotel rates have soared to an average £189 a night during the Olympic Games.

This is close to a 70% increase in average daily rate over the same time period last year.

Hotel market intelligence provider TravelClick revealed that hoteliers are seeing strong demand over the two weeks of the games between July 27 and August 12.

Committed occupancy across the capital shows rooms currently reserved for the Olympics stands at 77%, an increase of more than 40%.

Recent returns of rooms by Games organisers Locog has resulted in late bargains at selected hotels.

The busiest day in London during the Olympics is Saturday, August 4, coinciding with the Women’s 50m Freestyle and 4x100m Medley Relay finals, as well as the Men’s 1500m Freestyle and 4x100m Medley Relay finals.

Occupancy for the day is at 82.3% based on current bookings.
