Holiday auctions site to open for bidding

MIDLANDS Co-op Travel has launched a holiday auctions Internet site offering customers the chance to bid on-line for holidays and flights.

The site is the creation of Internet Travel Auctions Ltd, a new division of Midlands Co-op Travel and technology company TARSC.

Launched on September 1, the site will advertise the product on offer and the closing date for bids. Confirmation will be e-mailed to the successful bidder who will be asked to pay by credit card via the Internet or over the telephone.

Further to bidding for holidays, customers will be able to buy holidays direct by selecting a product available on the site’s ‘fixed-price bargains’ page.

Launching the site, general manager of Internet Travel Auctions Gill Peachey said: “There will always be people who want to go to a shop and talk about their holidays but increasingly there are people who like to use technology. They are experienced in travel, know what they want and just want to book it.”

Based at Lichfield, the division is targeting 20,000 people to book their holiday on the site in the first year of operation. Within three years it forecasts that £50m will be generated from the site. Internet Travel Auctions and TARSC marketing director Kerry Costello said: “We believe auction selling will widen to include late availability for accommodation. Even theme park tickets are a potential product for auction.”

The site can be found at: www.holidayauctions.net
