Disney Cruise Line’s oldest ship Disney Magic is to be revamped after its return to Europe next summer.
The 2,700-passenger vessel is to enter dry dock at the end of its 2013 Mediterranean season.
The ship’s cruise director Darren McBurney declined to say what work would be carried out to the ship, which entered service in 1998.
All he would say about the facelift is: “We are known for creating firsts in the industry”.
Details of the work to be carried out to the first of the entertainment giant’s four ships are due to emerge in the next two months but will include a “typical ship-wide refurbishment,” a spokeswoman said.
The facelift will follow a summer of operations from New York to the Bahamas and New England this summer and a series of departures from Galveston in Texas to the Caribbean over the winter.
Disney Magic will then operate fly-cruises from Barcelona from June 2013 including new destinations for the line such as Venice, Kusadasi and Dubrovnik.
The ship is returning to Europe after spending 2011 and 2010 in the region.
British passengers are expected to make up between 30-40 per cent of those on board as the ship runs four, seven and 12-night departures in 2013.
Virgin Holidays Cruises is offering four-night fly-cruises starting at pounds 699 including dollars 50 on board credit for bookings made by November 15.
