Agents offered guidance after Celebrity documentary

The Passenger Shipping Association has put together an information sheet on staff working on cruises to help agents respond to any customer queries, after a Dispatches programme on ‘life below deck’ on the Celebrity Eclipse.

The programme, shown on Channel 4 on Monday, showed staff working long hours for low pay, and Celebrity Cruises has pledged to investigate all the allegations made and to take “swift action” if necessary.

The information sheet, which has been provided to agents, provides details about the benefits provided to crew members free of charge, such as room and board.

It also sets out the rules regarding hours of work and rest that cruise lines are expected to abide by, including agreements with the International Maritime Organisation, and that they must comply with all applicable international labour conventions.
