A tornado has hit the western suburbs of Auckland in New Zealand killing three people and disrupting flights.
The areas of Hobsonville and Whenuapai were struck on Thursday afternoon local time, uprooting trees and taking roofs off houses.
A number of air services were delayed by the storm, which also caused power outages in several suburbs. Fallen trees and debris blocked some roads as thunderstorms and heavy rain accompanied the torado.
New Zealand’s civil defence office said seven people were also taken to hospital.
“About 150 homes have been displaced at Whenuapai and many have been deemed uninhabitable or are without power,” a statement said.
The BBC reported one resident as describing the storm as “five minutes of utter devastation”.
Some 250 residents were being cared for at an air force base.
