The Association of Independent Tour Operators (Aito) is to hold two conferences next year for both its specialist agent and tour operator members.
The first, to be held in June, will focus on the retail environment and is likely to attract agents and tour operator sales reps.
The destination of the summer conference will be announced at the Aito Specialist Travel Agents’ domestic conference in January.
Aito’s winter overseas conference will take place in November, with its venue to be revealed later next year. It is likely to attract owner/managers and tour operators.
It will focus on three issues: how to run an entrepreneurial and profitable travel business, how to choose the right travel suppliers, destinations and experiences to attract new and repeat customers and how to optimise online technology for more effective operations and marketing.
Aito expects to take bookings from operators, agents and affiliates for either or both conferences based on their specific interests, with preferential rates available for those who choose to attend both.
Aito agents chairman Oliver Broad said: “There is so much going on in the travel industry, we needed a decent amount of time to concentrate on each aspect.
“Everyone sees conferences as a luxury rather than a necessity now. If members can get more out of their conference then it’s more worthwhile for them. I want to encourage lots of ideas and debate, and I want people to go back with a book full of notes.”
