The search is on to find industry teams game enough to join a three-day road trip across Europe to raise money for good causes.
The Travel Trade Crusade, the brainchild of two industry employees and being run in association with Travel Weekly, is appealing to travel companies to put forward teams of at least two for the fun rally from July 12-14.
Teams can choose which UK charity to support from those relevant to their business to those close to the hearts of staff.
Organisers anticipate causes such as Reuben’s Retreat to be supported. This aims to set up a retreat for families of those with life-threatening illnesses following the death of toddler Reuben Graham last year, whose parents both work in the trade.
Sarah Archer, of Beachcomber Tours, and Nick Joyce, of Email4travel, are organising the event from Calais to Amsterdam via five European countries. It will take in the world famous Nürburgring race circuit in Germany and include point-scoring challenges, with the winning team’s charity receiving a cash prize donation.
She said: “It’s something a little different from the usual fundraising activities and we promise everyone who enters will have a great deal of fun while raising money for good causes.”
It is hoped the trip, which industry group Bright and tour operator Kuoni have already entered, will include all sorts of vehicles, from ordinary family estates to classic cars, motorbikes and customised old bangers.
